This book is every single thing that I could ever want from a romance novel and more. And in a classic Emma move, I read this book, which is supposed to be the second book in the series, before I read the first. I promise it isn’t intentional.
The Fairy Godmothers Inc. series as a whole focuses on the meddling efforts of the fairy godmothers, Petunia, Jonquil, and Bluebonnet. These godmothers will do anything and everything in their power to get their “charges” or grandkids to a happily ever after. Each story takes place in Ever After (for the most part), where animals are friendly, everyone believes in magic and the entire town is run off of love.
It Happened One Midnight focuses on Juniper, who is a best-selling romance author. Though her happy endings come really easily to her characters, Juniper hasn’t been so lucky thus far. She knows that if she doesn’t do something about her lacking love life quickly, then her meddling grandmothers will do something about it, which would be just about the worst-case scenario according to Juniper.
Juniper takes the time to convince her childhood best friend, Thomas, that they should be fake fiances just to get the grandmothers off their backs. That happens to be great timing because Thomas was just informed that in order to become a partner at the law firm where he works as a divorce attorney, he is going to have to be married first. While he isn’t sure that is a legal thing they can do, he figured this would be a good step in the right direction to let them know he is serious.
Thomas struggles to believe in love after seeing what he has at the law firm. Juniper still believes in fairy tales and everything that comes with them. After several heated moments, they have to figure out if they are faking it just to play the part, or if there is actually something real between them.
This series made my heart almost burst with happiness I think. Magic, in the light, airy, and fun sense, is one of my favorite elements in novels. This series overall is one that is fun and fluffy. While there are some spicy scenes, they enhance the stories more. Saranna does an excellent job balancing giggly moments, serious topics, and magic. These books truly read like a fairytale with spice.
